Technology in the Library

Equipment

Icons of a speaker, headphones, microphone, and cameraWe have a variety of equipment to check out, including chargers, connecting cables, flash drives, scanners, cameras, hotspots, and more! These smaller tech items can be checked out at the circulation desk any time.

We also have more advanced equipment including high-end cameras, microphones, projectors, presentation and meeting technology, and more from Presentation Technology Services available via online reservation!

Media Stations

Level 3

Our multimedia workstations and scanning stations in the lobby (closest to the front desk) have specialized hardware and software to scan all kinds of materials (books, documents, photos, slides, tapes) and to work on a variety of media projects, including the full Adobe Creative Suite.

Level 1

The two editing stations in Room 112 on Level 1 are available to reserve. These computers have dual large monitors, increased GPU performance, height adjustable desk. These computers have Camtasia, Adobe Creative Cloud and other software.

Users are asked to remain quiet as this space is next door to the Lightboard Studio. Collaborative editing should be done on Level 3.

Production Studios

  • Studio 1 houses our One Button Studio, perfect for fast and easy video recordings of presentations, lectures, speeches, and more. Studio 1 isIcon of a computer screen with music, photo, and video buttons also home to our podcast creation station, which records multiple streams of audio and video for perfect high-end  content of all kinds.
  • Studio 2 is home to the Lightboard Studio, which allows users to magically write on an invisible board while talking – perfect for lectures and tutorials.

UM IT

Get the help you need at the UM IT Service Desk, now in the library lobby! During their open hours, you can walk in to get help with any of your technological issues.

Accessible Technology

Accessible Technology Room

There is an accessible technology room available on Level 2, room 209. You can use this room for group or individual study, and reserve it up to two weeks in advance.

Specialized equipment includes:

  • Height adjustable tables
  • Desktop Video Magnifier
  • ​Computer workstation with scanner and large print keyboard
  • Variety of software, including Read&Write Gold, Jaws, Dragon Naturally Speaking, MAGic, etc.
  • White noise machine, headset with noise canceling microphone, whiteboard, comfortable lounge chair, etc.

Accessible Computers & Software

A wheelchair-accessible, adjustable-height computer is available on Level 3. In addition to the standard software, the computer also includes:

  • An easy-to-read large print keyboard
  • A flatbed scanner
  • Reading and speech recognition software

All public computers in the library include: 

  • Windows Ease of Access Center
  • JAWS
  • NVDA
  • Read&Write Gold
