Why Create a Profile?

Google Scholar Profiles allow researchers to customize and showcase their academic publications and citations. If you're doing research and preparing to publish, or already pubished, you may want to create a profile to increase your scholarly SEO (search engine optimization) and the visibility of your research.

How To

  1. Go to Google Scholar.
  2. Click My Profile in the upper-left corner.
  3. Sign in with a google account, or sign up for one and then sign in.
  4. Ensure your name is spelled correctly on the Scholar profile sign up form and answer the remaining questions. Use your university email address for the “Email for verification” if you want your profile to be included in Google Scholar search results. To verify your affiliation, respond to the email you receive from Google Scholar.
  5. Add your scholarship and creative activity. You will automatically see a list that Google Scholar connects with your name, categorized into Groups and Articles. Review the list first to avoid manual data entry: Check the box to the left of works that are yours and you want associated with your profile. Create citations manually for scholarship and creative activity not listed. You can add and remove items from your profile at any time.
    • Google Scholar Content Coverage includes references from “journal and conference papers, theses and dissertations, academic books, pre-prints, abstracts, technical reports and other scholarly literature.
  6. Review and choose the options you want for how publication data changes (e.g., page numbers) are handled (automatically or require your review).
  7. Check the box next to “Make my profile public” if you want your profile to be visible.
  8. You will then see your profile and can choose to add additional details, such as co-authors or a photo.
  9. To edit your profile details, click on the crayon icon or the Review link.
  10. To set up alerts for when new citations are made to your publications, or articles related to your research are published, click the "Follow" button next to your name, then check the options you want.
